Some clinicians find it difficult to pull information from clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) into the reality of the clinic and patient care. This course uses the best practices from the CPGs on low back pain developed by APTA: Orthopedics and translates the science into real world clinical success. Case studies are used to synthesize information and practice evaluation and treatment skills while also providing the opportunity to discuss incorporating tools that you have in your personal toolbox into your personal patient centered system for the management of individuals who seek your care for low back pain.

Headaches are one of the most frequent reasons people see their general physician and only a minority of people with headache disorders receive appropriate diagnosis and treatment frustrating medical providers and patients alike and leading to a significant burden in disability-adjusted life years. This course reviews the International Classification of Headaches, assessing for red flags and then concentrates on the evaluation and treatment of Tension Type Headache and Cervicogenic Headache. Differentiation of these headaches types from other headaches less amenable to physical and occupational therapy and from each other as well as setting a prognosis and developing treatment strategies through predominantly manual therapy and exercise is the goal of this course.
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) were developed by an Osteopath, Fred Mitchell. MET is said to be the first organized somatic treatment system to be based on soft tissue dysfunction. In this course we cover MET considering the most recent science as to target inhibit facilitated or hypertonic muscles in acute and chronic low back pain and pair it with exercise to treat painful muscle imbalances and improve function in patients who seek our care.
